Inside Out Toys becomes sole UK distributor of games by Scratch Europe

Inside Out Toys (IOT) has become the sole UK distributor of a range of puzzles and games made from recycled card by Scratch Europe, adding to its portfolio of sustainable toy brands.

IOT will launch the brand at the Home & Gift Buyers Festival in Harrogate next month, when stock will be available for immediate delivery.

Fuelled by its recent success at the Gift of the Year Awards with two of its brands, the family-owned and run small business is dedicated to growing its business in the sustainable toy and gift market and decided to complement its existing brands by adding a range of jigsaw puzzles.

Pentel appoints John Cotterell into sales team

Stationery brand Pentel has appointed industry veteran John Cotterell to manage its sales territory from Staffordshire to the Channel Islands, encompassing south and mid-Wales, south-west England and much of the M40 corridor.

John joins Pentel following the recent retirement of long-standing Pentel territory manager Sally Evans.

With over 40 years' experience John has extensive knowledge of the stationery industry and writing instruments in particular, gained through territory and national account manager roles with Stabilo, Esselte and, latterly, Pilot.

Sustainability Matters at LSS

Sustainability has been a growing trend and key focus in the stationery industry over recent years and has sparked an increase in innovative eco-friendly products from notebooks to gift-wrap. London Stationery Show chose to highlight this important issue with a brand-new Sustainability Matters feature taking centre stage at the event. As the largest UK trade event dedicated to the paper and writing instruments industry, it was important for the show to emphasise the alternative tools people can use in their everyday lives to affect positive change for the planet.

The variety of new styles combines natural casualness and exclusive design to create sporty elegance. The range follows the company's commitment to wearing comfort thanks to innovative technologies such as Climotion.

The City range in the Caprice collection is characterised by high levels of comfort and flexibility. The variety of different materials ranges from real Napa via velour to metallic leather. The smooth, high-quality deerskin in soft colour tones is distinctive and displayed in a selection of product groups. Patent leather is often combined with decorative elements. The materials are mixed with compositions of different leathers, sometimes with contrasting mesh insets.

The GA and CIA merge

The Giftware Association is pleased to announce that as of 22nd June it's taken over the operational, management and memberships activities of the Creative Industry Association. Both associations have huge synergies with their respective industries which will benefit the members of both associations with newly added skill and resource. This means the Creative Industry Association, and of course its members, are now part of a much larger organisation, which will help secure the associations future, with greater resources, greater support, and opportunities for all members and vice versa.

Miss Milly takes part in the inaugural Sustainability Basics course

During April and May, Miss Milly took part in the inaugural Sustainability Basics course offered by Small Business Britain.

A six-week course run with Oxford Brookes University, Small99 and Sustainable Pathways, the programme began with an introduction to sustainability and how to calculate your carbon footprint, and then looked at different areas in more detail, such as energy and transport, supply chain and carbon offsetting.

Small Business Britain will be running a second course from 6 September and Miss Milly is encouraging other businesses in the gift industry to get involved.

Fanattik appoints new Sales Director

Fanattik, the UK based pop culture gift licensee, has appointed Luiz Ferreira to the position of Sales Director.

Luiz first started with Fanattik as a consultant three years ago before moving up to head of sales and now as Sales Director he will be managing relationships with gift retailers throughout the UK, mainland Europe, MENA and Australasia.

A gaming and film fan himself, Luiz brings more the twenty years' experience working with pop culture merchandise to the role.

Bulldog adds Aykroyds to the Magic Mixies line-up

Bulldog Licensing, which manages the rights for the Magic Mixies brand in the UK, has signed specialist apparel licensee, Aykroyds TDP, to the consumer products line-up for the brand.

Aykroyds TDP will be developing a range of children's nightwear, underwear and swimwear for the brand, inspired by the toy property.

Launched last Christmas, the first product in the Magic Mixies range was the Magic Mixies Magic Cauldron, which caught the attention of the nation, young and old, and quickly made it onto Christmas lists from retailers, the Toy Retailers Association, and children alike up and down the UK.

The Shop & Display Equipment Association votes in new President

The Shop & Display Equipment Association held its 75th Annual General Meeting in May, which saw Mark Chatterton, Managing Director of Morplan, voted as the new President of the Association and Rob Hill, Production Director of Graphica Display elected Vice President.

EDEA members logged on to the Virtual AGM and heard all about the hard work that has been undertaken over the past year for SDEA members and the exciting plans in store for the year ahead, including the upcoming Creative Retail Awards in September.
