JELC, the global licensing agent for the enormously successful My Cat Pip design brand, and Over the Moon, the brand's creator, have announced the successful launch of My Cat Pip as a children's publishing brand in the UK market.
The books, from Hodder Children's Books, are a search-and-find book called Where are You Pip?; two sticker books, Showtime Pip! and Purrfect Pip!; and a lift-the-flap book called Pip, Pip, Hooray!
A comprehensive listing across major supermarkets, bookshops, garden centres and online retailers has driven a strong response from the target market of pre-school children, parents and present-buyers. In fact so successful have the first four titles been since their launch in March that a reprint is already under way and more books — including sticker activity books and doodle books — will follow later this year and in Spring 2014.
A cheeky, funny little black cat with an appeal to both children and adults, My Cat Pip has established a strong retail presence in the UK and around the world since the brand entered the licensing sector in 2009. Today, the success of the new books and the fast-growing awareness of the charming little black cat — especially in the pre-school market — is boosting the continuing expansion of the ongoing licensing programme.
As well as a strong core market in greetings cards and wrap, now licensed to Portico, recent launches in plush from Aurora and plans for apparel and apps will add to a wide licensing base that also includes gifts, magazines, iPad skins, calendars, planners, stationery, aprons, mini tote bags, giftware and, of course, a very strong and growing market in activity books. And, along with conventional publicity outlets, a positive reaction from the highly influential mums' blogs and websites is also spreading the word about Pip.
Karen Bendy, Creative Director of Over The Moon Design and illustrator of the new books, says: “Not just book sales but actual feedback from mums and children has confirmed the enormously positive response to Pip's first appearances in books. Our favourite little black cat is now set for many more adventures, both in book form and in a growing number of licensing categories.”
