Following the announcement that the Slow Toy Awards will be making a return this year, the Slow Toy team is delighted that they can now reveal the entry opening date. The awards will officially be open for entries on Friday 3rd May, 2013 and participants will have just less than six weeks to get their entries in until the official closing date on Wednesday 12th June, 2013.
Just like last year, the 2013 Slow Toy Awards aim to recognise the 'real toys' on the market that are well made, inspire the mind and provide children far more than the noise and flashing lights commonly associated with the toys of today.
This year's judges, which include Kate Carter, the life and style editor at the Guardian online; Liat Hughes Joshi, parenting journalist and published author of What to Buy Your Baby; Angellica Bell and Michael Underwood, the much loved TV presenters, and mummy blogger Nicola Hinchcliffe from Monsters Funhouse, can't wait to see what toys they will discover and are excited to see who will make the shortlist.
Each toy will be judged based on the following criteria:
*Must be available in independent stores
*Must inspire the mind
*Must not require batteries
*Must not be solely made from plastic
*It has to stand the test of time
*It has to promise true play value
*It must be a well made toy
As of Friday 3rd May, participants can email email@example.com where they will then receive an entry form to fill in and email to the entries email address. After the closing date, the shortlisted toys will be contacted and samples will be called in for the second round of judging to decide on the final Slow Seven (more information to follow). The winners of this year's awards will not only get a badge of honour from the Slow Toy Awards, they will be sold in a prestigious store in the run up to Christmas (still to be announced).
