The recycled water bottles are cleaned and shredded into pellets, then coloured and melted to create new frames. The resulting modified polycarbonate material is tough, heat resistant and lightweight – a win win for eyewear. Whilst the lenses are still made from new "virgin" material the team are looking to change this in the future as technological advances are made.
Popular styles so far are Hockley, an oversized frame, bold style Ealing and the 70's inspired Chiswick. There's lots of brights such as pink, yellow and red as well as best sellers black and tortoise, all in a contemporary matt finish. The glasses are also packed and stored in compostable bags to help minimise plastics.
