| The little things that matter |
| |
Writing this I can hardly believe it's been a year since I was last packing my bags for Harrogate.
At the time of going to press the team here at Gift Focus was full of anticipation and looking forward to another great Home & Gift. Last year was a real tonic, after a prolonged diet of doom and gloom the 2009 edition marked a distinct upturn in spirits.
The organisers are confident of another cracking four days this year and if the amount of new product to be unveiled is anything to go by business should be brisk. We reveal a host of recession-busting lines sure to boost sales in our bumper preview. We will be there for the duration so don't forget to drop by stand 1 in hall Q to say hello and pick up a free copy of your favourite magazine as well as our other trade titles Craft Focus and Attire Accessories.
This year's edition of the design-led show Pulse took place in London recently and was as inspirational as ever. It's always a joy to see new young talent entering the market and once again Launchpad at Pulse provided an edifying window to the design stars of the future.
I also visited Progressive Greetings Live for the first time having missed the launch show last year. It struck me as a pretty brave move to launch a new trade show dedicated to greeting cards in the throws of an economic crisis but the organisers have obviously tapped into a winning formula. There was a real buzz about the show, lots of positive people doing positive business, in a pleasant environment with free lunch, tea and coffee to boot. What a great impression of British hospitality the large number of international visitors must have taken home with them.
At the end of the day it is often the little things that make a lasting impression, which is why in all businesses, customer service is so vital. Jo Causon, chief executive of the Institute of Customer Service offers Gift Focus readers her top tips for keeping the customer happy.
As well as plenty of other valuable business advice and industry insights, we also reveal the winners of the prestigious Gift of the Year Awards 2010, sponsored for the second year running by Gift Focus and Attire Accessories.
Full of hot new products and latest launches for the seasons ahead, don't forget to pack your copy before heading off for Harrogate!
Enjoy reading and see you there
