How did you get started?
I made my first WishStrings Wish Bracelet in 2012 in my university bedroom. It was for a friend and she encouraged me to set up a Facebook page and sell them online and at local craft fairs. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would eventually own my own boutique shop and have a growing wholesale business. I began trading wholesale in 2015 and since then the company has gone from strength to strength.
Each charm is hand strung and knotted on 30cm of the finest waxed cotton cord, making a beautiful simple bracelet to tie on as a token of love and friendship. Presented on a beautifully designed card with an inspirational saying, quirky graphics and empowering words the bottom of each card reads Make a Wish, tie on the bracelet, when the thread wears thin and breaks away, your wish will come true so they say. The idea and style of the bracelet changed and developed over time, but I always felt the wish element was important because the bracelet then holds a special meaning to its wearer and the positive message behind them. The encouragement to make wishes and strive to achieve dreams is really important to me. WishStrings is all about positivity and achieving everything you set your mind to.
Are you working alone or do you employ anyone?
WishStrings is mainly run by myself, however I do have lots of help behind the scenes!
My parents have been a huge part in helping me run and manage the business. They've packed orders and helped with stock management in their spare time. I also have an incredible team of lovely ladies who help produce the bracelets, as well as my amazing grandparents who tie the charms on the string producing more than 1,000 a week. It really is a family affair! We're currently looking to expand into a new range of products that will include notebooks, pocket mirrors, tote bags and make-up bags to complement some of our most popular WishStrings. These will be launching in time for Christmas, which is incredibly exciting.
