In 2009 Pentel became a corporate partner of what was then The Prostate Cancer Charity, donating part of the retail price of every sale of a ballpoint pen called Linestyle. The product that really made the difference and helped to reach today’s donation figure is the EnerGel Xm Retractable, a white barrelled refillable rollerball pen with smooth flowing, ultra-quick-drying ink that resists smudging on hands and paper and is perfect for right- and lefthanded writers. For every special edition EnerGel Xm Retractable pen it sells, Pentel donates £0.25 to Prostate Cancer UK. In the 17 years’ of the partnership Pentel has sold more than three million pens in support of the charity. If placed end to end the total length of the pens would be sufficient to scale the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building, more than 529 times. Prostate Cancer UK funds research into earlier diagnosis, as well as making sure men understand their risk of disease, as prostate cancer is currently the only major cancer without a mass screening programme. The charity also provides professional support for men and their families affected by it. Pentel Marketing Manager Wendy Vickery says, “Thanks to the continued support of our customers – with thanks especially to Clintons - and the generosity of the public we’re able to keep setting the goalpost higher in our bid to raise even more money for Prostate Cancer UK. We would be absolutely thrilled to reach the next fundraising target, which is £1million and we’re determined to get there.” James Steven, Head of Partnerships at Prostate Cancer UK says, “Pentel Stationery has continued to be an incredible supporter of Prostate Cancer UK over many years, and for the fundraising efforts to now tip over £750,000 since the partnership started is phenomenal. The money raised has helped fund research into earlier diagnosis and helped us reach men across the country with vital risk awareness information. We look forward to continuing this brilliant partnership and helping save men’s lives.” For more information about the partnership or to find the nearest Pentel stockist, visit www.pentel.co.uk 6

Standout pieces include coffee cupinspired lip balms and bath salts, a stiletto-shaped body wash, and a cosmetic brush set with distinctive trident-shaped tips. www.madbeauty.com DENBY POTTERY ENTERS ADMINISTRATION Pottery firm Denby has appointed administrators following difficulties keeping up with rising costs. The business has appointed FRP Advisory as administrators for Denby and Burgess & Leigh. Denby is said to be continuing discussions with interested parties of the sale of all or part of its business portfolio. According to the BBC News website as of 22nd April, ‘Manufacturing is to cease at renowned pottery firm Denby and a further 49 workers have been made redundant, administrators have said’. Also on the news platform, it’s stated that Tony Wright, joint administrator of the Denby Group and partner at FRP, said, “This is another very difficult day for the skilled workers at Denby and we understand how devastating this news will be for those affected and their families. Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts, we have been unable to find a buyer for the manufacturing operations and have had to take this difficult decision. We remain in discussions with interested parties regarding other parts of the business and continue to do everything we can to support affected employees through this process.” OWALA APPOINTS ITS FIRST UK DISTRIBUTOR AS IT EXPANDS ITS EUROPEAN FOOTPRINT US hydration brand, Owala, has appointed Unify Brand Partnerships as its exclusive UK distributor, marking the brand’s first dedicated retail and logistics base in Britain. The partnership is designed to accelerate Owala’s expansion into the UK’s growing reusable-bottle market. The sector was forecast by Mintel’s UK Water and Hydration Drinks Report (released in August 2023) to reach £733.5 million by 2032 in the UK. Founded in 2020, Owala has rapidly become the bestselling water-bottle brand in the United States, recognised for its patented FreeSip® spout and bold colour palettes. The UK agreement with Unify Brand Partnerships allows expanded availability through major retailers, specialist lifestyle stores and e-commerce channels from mid-April 2026. In the early stages of its appointment, Unify Brand Partnerships can confirm the onboarding of Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland, Fenwick and Next in the UK. The rapid uptake that they have already experienced underscores retailer confidence in Owala’s designled positioning and the expanding appeal of premium hydration accessories across both department-store and high-street channels. “The UK public shows high awareness of environmental issues,” said Damian Cooper, Managing Director at Unify Brand Partnerships. “Owala’s arrival offers retailers a fresh proposition. It has successfully reimagined everyday hydration with a product that genuinely disrupts the category. Its combination of function, personality and social media-energy makes it perfectly positioned for the UK market.” Reusable bottles are fast becoming part of the accessories’ economy. UK fashion and lifestyle media now describe them as the ‘new handbag’, symbols of personal style and everyday sustainability. UK demand is being led by Gen Z and millennial consumers who treat hydration gear as self-expression rather than utility. “Our goal is to help UK retailers tap into a category that sits between wellness, fashion and tech,” added Damian. “Consumers don’t just want a bottle, they want a lifestyle object that reflects who they are.” https://owalalife.com INDUSTRY NEWS 7

This elegant range features delicate rose motifs that capture the timeless elegance and romantic charm of the village’s famous gardens. Each piece is designed to be a centrepiece, blending Susan Williams-Ellis’ original botanical legacy with a contemporary aesthetic. The Botanic Roses collection serves as a fitting tribute to a century of architectural and artistic excellence, ensuring that the spirit of Portmeirion Village continues to live on in homes everywhere. Continuing the legacy left by Susan to invest in the Stoke-onTrent Potteries, the majority of the Botanic Garden collection and this line extension, is proudly manufactured in Portmeirion’s UK factory, bearing the backstamp of British quality. This commitment to local manufacturing is vital in preserving the legacy of British design, as it sustains the traditional skills of local artisans while ensuring that the distinctive aesthetic of the British countryside remains a tangible, high quality export on the global stage. The new pieces are made from earthenware which is microwave and dishwasher safe for easy maintenance. www.portmeirion.co.uk AMPERSAND FRAGRANCES LAUNCHES BRICKSAND-MORTAR STORES Ampersand Fragrances, a UK-based fragrance house, is continuing to build momentum within the independent retail sector with a model shaped around bricks-and-mortar stores, placing them at the heart of the brand in an increasingly digital-first market. Positioned as a discovery-led brand, Ampersand invites customers into the immersive physical retail space which becomes a gateway for a scent-led discovery experience. The collection is built around a series of distinctive yet subjective fragrances, each designed to communicate mood and character as much as scent. From bright, citrus-led compositions such as Portofino, blending lemon, ginger and pink pepper with dry amber, to warmer, more complex profiles like Iconic, the range offers clear olfactive diversity. Floral styles such as California offer delicate, wearable everyday favourites, whilst Emotion offers a modern day take on the classic Chypre – deep, personal and evocative. Founded following 15 years’ experience developing, creating and manufacturing fine fragrance for some of the world’s most prestigious brands, Ampersand was established to bring the focus back to scent itself. All fragrances are made in small batches by hand in the UK using responsibly sourced oils and ingredients, certified 100 per cent cruelty-free and vegan. The brand also champions low-impact packaging, with products that are 99.3 per cent plastic-free and presented in recycled materials. Supported by dedicated point-of-sale and counter display units, the brand creates a clear addon sales opportunity, encouraging customers to engage with fragrance in a more spontaneous and accessible way. David Walker, Founder and Director of Ampersand Fragrances, comments: “Bricks-and-mortar retail sits at the core of our business. Fragrance is inherently non-visual and difficult to communicate online, often comprising hundreds of individual ingredients, so the in-store experience is critical. Scent is personal, emotional and evolves uniquely on each individual, which is why discovery plays such an important role in the customer journey. Giving customers the time and space to explore and connect with a fragrance is key. This approach continues to resonate strongly with both our retail partners and our customers.” www.ampersandfragrances.com SOUTH AFRICAN BRAND CARROL BOYES LAUNCHES UK ONLINE STORE Internationally acclaimed South African homeware and gifting brand Carrol Boyes has launched a UK online store introducing British audiences to its signature fusion of sculptural artistry and functional design. ACID’S DIDS MACDONALD NAMED IN THE 2026 WOMEN IN TRADE ASSOCIATION POWERLIST On International Women’s Day 2026, Anti Copying In Design (ACID) was proud to celebrate the recognition of its Co-founder & Chairman, Dids Macdonald OBE. Dids, who is also a Past Master of the Furniture Makers Company, was nominated and included in the 2026 Women in Trade Association Powerlist. Nicola Bates, Chair of the Selection Panel and CEO of WineGB said, “We are at a unique point in UK history – just twenty years ago the make-up of such a list would not be as powerful, and if we reflect back to our parents’ generation there would barely be a cohort to celebrate. We are now at the happy period where the curation of a Powerlist of women in trade associations is difficult, not because it is hard to fill, but to filter to 100 women.” FSB Chief Executive Julie Lilley said, “Being part of this initiative to shine a spotlight on the invaluable contribution of women within the trade association sphere is incredibly rewarding. FSB is very proud to support WiTA 2026, with the Powerlist highlighting just some of the inspiring work that women in associations are doing every day to move towards a brighter future for all.” ACID’s CEO Laura Newbold Breen said, “Though it’s no surprise to see Dids named on a list of Inspirational Women, it is fantastic that this accolade has been attributed to her in recognition of Dids’ unending contribution to the ACID team and the UK designer sector. The recent Design Consultation is a testament to Dids’ tireless commitment to campaigning on behalf of designers everywhere to ensure the IP landscape is improved and the best it can be for our UK creative industries. Congratulations from all of us at ACID!” This recognition is a fitting tribute to her decades of dedication to strengthening the UK’s design protection landscape and supporting the creative community. www.acid.uk.com SEED REVOLUTION SECURES LISTING WITH BLUE DIAMOND GARDEN CENTRES Seed Revolution, one of the UK’s fastest growing seed companies, has secured a listing with Blue Diamond Garden Centres. The new identity is built around the guiding idea that translates the feeling of space, clarity and calm associated with the Highlands into products designed for everyday use. Alongside this positioning, the new visual identity repositions the familyrun soap and skincare maker with a calmer, more confident aesthetic that reflects its handmade processes, commitment to natural ingredients and deep connection to its Highland origins. The striking design doubles down on the landscape surrounding the company’s Fort William workshop where its products are handmade and the 4,400ft mountain can be seen. Freytag Anderson sought to amplify a more emotive representation of Scotland for the global brand. A refined colour palette, hand-painted graphic accents and a bespoke skyline motif drawn from the mountain silhouettes combine to form a design system that feels rooted in place, tactile and timeless. The rebrand also puts a sharper spotlight on what goes into the products themselves. Organic ingredients, naturally derived fragrances, and low-impact formulations are now more clearly communicated across the packaging, alongside refillable bottles and materials designed to reduce waste. Green is used deliberately as a signal of the brand’s commitment to low-impact skincare, helping customers navigate the range more easily. The result is packaging that better reflects the company’s standards – and an ingredient-led approach that remains uncommon in a crowded skincare market. www.highlandsoaps.com INDUSTRY NEWS 11
