7 EDITOR’S LETTER 33 On the cover Lesser & Pavey Established in 1971 by Chairman and Co-Founder Ronnie Pavey, Lesser & Pavey has become a leading UK trade supplier of giftware and homewares. www.leonardo.co.uk The golden quarter It may feel early to be talking about Christmas, but for the gift industry, festive planning is already well underway. As buyers begin making key purchasing decisions for the busiest retail period of the year, this issue is packed with inspiration designed to help businesses stay one step ahead and make the most of the opportunities the months ahead will bring. With that in mind, this July/August issue marks the start of our Christmas coverage, showcasing the latest products and trends set to capture consumers’ attention in the run-up to the holidays. From thoughtful keepsakes and seasonal décor to giftable treats and stocking fillers, our Christmas feature offers plenty of inspiration to help retailers maximise opportunities during this crucial sales period. Alongside festive preparations, we also turn the spotlight on Halloween. Once considered a niche event in the UK retail calendar, Halloween continues to grow in popularity year after year, creating valuable opportunities for retailers to engage customers with themed gifts, decorations and impulse purchases. Elsewhere in this issue, we explore the enduring appeal of baby gifts, a category that remains a staple for many gift retailers, as well as photo frames and wall art, products that help consumers personalise their homes and preserve cherished memories. This edition is also our dedicated Autumn Fair show issue. As one of the industry’s most anticipated buying events, Autumn Fair provides an invaluable opportunity to discover new launches, reconnect with suppliers and gain insight into emerging trends. We also take a look ahead to Top Drawer and GLEE, highlighting what visitors can expect from these key trade exhibitions. Happy reading. Since launching the partnership, every puzzle or game purchased directly from the Gibsons website has contributed to rainforest protection, helping to safeguard biodiversity and reduce CO2 emissions. The milestone reflects the collective impact of conscious consumer choices and Gibsons’ ongoing commitment to putting people and planet at the heart of its business. As a Certified B Corporation, Gibsons is committed to using business as a force for good. In 2025, the company was also recognised with the King’s Award for Sustainability, acknowledging its long-standing approach to responsible manufacturing, ethical partnerships and environmental stewardship. Kate Gibson, Managing Director commented: “Reaching the milestone of 2 million trees protected is something we’re incredibly proud of. Partnering with One Tribe has allowed us to turn every puzzle and game purchase on our website into a positive action for the planet. Knowing our customers can enjoy doing what they love while helping to protect our planet and reduce CO2 emissions makes this partnership truly special.” The milestone underscores the power of purpose-led partnerships and reflects Gibsons’ belief that everyday moments of play can also create meaningful environmental impact. The appointment was confirmed at SDEA’s 79th Annual General Meeting in May. Claire White was elected President having served as Vice President over the past year, and as a council member before that. She succeeds Mark Chatterton of Morplan, who steps down after his term in the role. James North of Northbanks Design was elected Vice President. Claire White said: “It is a real honour to take on the role of President, and I am proud to be the first woman to do so in the Association’s history. Our industry has a unique ability to bring brands to life and create meaningful connections with customers through retail, display, and experiential environments. Designed for One Cask at a Time’s generic carton format, the pack was created to deliver the shelf presence and tactile appeal typically associated with rigid presentation boxes, while retaining the commercial and environmental benefits of cartonboard. The innovative eight-panel structure provides exceptional rigidity and a high-end feel, supported by an oversized format that enhances stand-out in premium retail environments. A recessed central panel allows variable labels to be applied across different whisky expressions and age statements, enabling production flexibility and economies of scale. Produced using FSC-certified virgin fibre cartonboard from Holmen, the fully recyclable pack offers a responsible alternative to heavier rigid formats and removes the need for plastic vac-formed inserts. Its one-piece, flat-packed construction also improves pallet efficiency, reduces transport volume and supports faster assembly on the bottling line. Visually, the carton delivers a highly sensory consumer experience through metallic inks, intricate hot-foil detailing, embossing, debossing and contrasting gloss finishes. The result is a pack that communicates craftsmanship, exclusivity and quality while encouraging consumer interaction. Falconer’s CAD team developed the structural design, with graphic design by Bombcrater. Russell Bradley, head of brand development at One Cask at a Time, said: “Falconer has been an absolute delight to work with throughout this project. From the earliest stages of development, the team demonstrated exceptional expertise, creativity and attention to detail, delivering a finished pack that exceeded our expectations. The whole team have been professional, responsive and a genuine pleasure to work with and we are already exploring future collaborations together.” Colin Pow, sales and marketing director at Falconer, added: “This project perfectly demonstrates how cartonboard can deliver the premium appearance and tactile quality expected within the luxury spirits sector, while also offering strong sustainability and operational benefits. By combining innovative structural design with high-end print finishes, we were able to create a pack that delivers real shelf impact without compromising recyclability or production efficiency.” visit www.falconerprint.co.uk. This year marks a significant milestone for the Awards, as they celebrate 60 years since the first honours were conferred in 1966. Established in 1965, the programme has since recognised more than 8,000 exceptional UK businesses, highlighting the strength, innovation, and ambition of British enterprise. To mark this anniversary year – and to ensure the Awards continue to reflect the evolving landscape of UK business – a new category has been introduced: The King’s Award for Enterprise – Young Founder. Created as part of the Department for Business and Trade’s Small Business Plan, the Award will recognise founders aged 18–30 who are actively leading their businesses and driving growth and opportunity. A total of 186 awards have been issued with one company, Bristolbased Tailfin Ltd, being recognised for two Awards. The Awards span a diverse range of sectors and celebrate the ambition, ingenuity, and success of the UK’s business community. Overall, 76 businesses have been recognised for International Trade, 52 for Innovation, 36 for Sustainability and 22 for Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility). By supporting more people into work, developing new innovations, and exporting the best Britain has to offer around the world, businesses like these are playing a key role in the Government’s mission to go further and faster for economic growth and to put more money in more working people’s pockets. Blair McDougall, Minister for Small Businesses and Economic Transformation said: “A huge congratulations to every business receiving awards this year, who once again have illustrated the best of British innovation and talent. “These awards show that right across the UK, there are small businesses that are thriving, growing and succeeding and it’s only right that we champion these successes.” Out of the 186 awards, 164 (89 percent) went to SMEs, and of those, 24 (13 percent) are micro-businesses, with 10 employees or less. Smaller businesses are the beating heart of this government’s growth mission and providing them with the right support to overcome barriers and reach their full potential is an absolute priority. On with the show Trade show updates from home and abroad Spring Fair & Theo Paphitis opens doors for 18 new retail start-ups Spring Fair, the retail industry’s leading home, gift and fashion experience, has announced the continuation of its successful partnership with retail entrepreneur Theo Paphitis and his #SBS Small Business Sunday initiative for 2027 with a significant expansion in opportunity for small businesses. For the first time, 18 small businesses will be awarded fully funded exhibition stands within the popular #SBS Village at Spring Fair 2027, a 50 percent increase from the previous 12, marking the largest intake since the partnership began and increased investment from Spring Fair. The initiative continues to champion the UK’s most exciting small businesses, providing a powerful platform to showcase products, connect with buyers, and accelerate growth within the retail sector. Theo Paphitis, TV Dragon, Retail Entrepreneur and Small Business Champion says: “I am thrilled to announce our continued partnership with Spring Fair. Year on year, the SBS x Spring Fair competition gives our winners a brilliant free opportunity to showcase their products, meet new people and grow their businesses. This year, we have even grown the opportunity - offering 18 stands in the #SBS Village, rather than our usual 12! I’m always inspired by the passion, creativity and hard work my winners bring, and it’s a real pleasure to meet them in person and hear their stories. Spring Fair is full of opportunity, and I can’t wait to meet the winning 18 at Spring Fair 2027.” Since 2018, the collaboration between #SBS and Spring Fair has supported over 80 small businesses with fully funded exhibition space, offering what many winners describe as a “game-changing” opportunity to enter wholesale, build networks and scale their operations. Fay Tranter, Spring Fair’s Event Director highlights the tangible growth and confidence the initiative brings to the UK’s small business community: “Working with the #SBS team has been an incredibly rewarding partnership and we’re proud to be deepening our investment in new and emerging retail businesses by increasing the number of fully funded stands from 12 to 18. Supporting the next generation of retail is central to what we do, and since 2019 this collaboration has enabled over 80 businesses to benefit from truly business-changing opportunities. The impact is tangible. And Theo’s passion and commitment are evident in everything he does, from speaking at our events to championing winners year-round. The annual #SBS showcase remains a real highlight, driving confidence, visibility and meaningful growth for every winner.” #SBS x Spring Fair: Success stories The impact of the initiative is best illustrated through the success of previous winners: Jess from Floral Lifestyle used her stand to secure high-level mentorship and essential resources for her textile business. “This opportunity from Theo not only has given me a nice little bank of wholesalers, but I’ve also got myself a mentor with 40 years’ experience in the biz I’m in, who’s helping me with no want for anything back! Priceless! Thank you isn’t enough! “Spring Fair 2026 was the most incredible experience and I am so grateful! Not only have I picked up orders and some great leads – all of which I wouldn’t have picked up alone – I’ve also networked with people in my industry that will help take my business to the next level! I just loved how open and honest everyone was. It was completely different to what I’m used to - retail shows with instant gratification. Wholesale is the long game, but I learnt so much in the run up and during the show. And I met friends for life. We were such a tight group of winners, all learning from each other and helping each other through a game changing experience. All topped off with meeting and thanking the main man himself. He spent so much of his precious time with us all individually, taking interest and admiring our work. Thank you Theo!” Supporting the next generation of retail The expanded #SBS Village forms part of Spring Fair’s wider commitment to supporting independent retailers and emerging brands, helping them turn passion into profitable, sustainable businesses. With applications now open, entrepreneurs from across the UK are being encouraged to apply for the chance to showcase their products at one of the country’s largest retail trade events. Visit https://www.theopaphitissbs.com/news/the-sbs-x-springfair-competition-is-back-and-bigger-than-ever/ for more details and the entry process. Competition closes on 21st June. Strong early momentum builds for Source Roadshow 2027 The Source Roadshow is already showing strong momentum for 2027, with a number of leading foodservice suppliers and Somerset-based businesses confirming their return to the one-day trade event at the Bath & West Showground. Taking place on Wednesday 24 February 2027, the tradeonly event is designed to connect food, drink, hospitality and retail buyers with a carefully curated mix of suppliers, producers and support services from across the South West. A notable feature of early bookings is the strength of the foodservice sector, with returning exhibitors including Arthur David, Four Seasons, Hunts Food Group, Fine Food Company, R D Johns, and Westcountry Foodservice. The addition of Savona, new to the show for 2027, further reinforces the Roadshow’s growing appeal as a meeting point for the regional supply chain. Alongside these larger operators, the event continues to attract strong support from within Somerset’s own food and drink community. Early rebookers include Aspen Maintenance Services, Barber’s Farmhouse Cheesemakers, Little Jack’s Sausage Rolls, Somerset Spirit Co, Somerset Grill Co, and Wyke Farms – highlighting the blend of national supply and local provenance that defines the show. The Source Roadshow was launched to provide a focused, accessible platform for businesses across the South West to connect, with a particular emphasis on practical outcomes, leads, meaningful conversations, and sales. Rather than a large-scale multi-day exhibition, the Roadshow format enables visitors and exhibitors to engage efficiently – meeting multiple contacts, exploring new opportunities, and addressing key commercial challenges within a single day. In addition to food and drink, the exhibitor mix includes equipment providers, technology companies, and specialist business services, reflecting the full range of needs within hospitality and retail operations. Mike Anderson, Managing Director of Hale Events, commented: “The early response for 2027 has been very encouraging. What’s particularly positive is seeing both major foodservice operators and Somerset-based producers committing early - that balance is what gives the Roadshow its value. It’s not just about showcasing products; it’s about bringing together businesses that can genuinely help each other – whether that’s through supply, ideas, or practical support for the year ahead.” With more than 100 exhibitors expected and free entry for trade visitors, the Source Roadshow continues to establish itself as an important date in the South West food and drink calendar. Exhibitor bookings are now open, with a limited number of stand options available for businesses looking to reach buyers across Somerset and the wider region. Information about exhibiting is available from James Curtis or Paul Thomas, on 01934 733433, or by emailing stands@hale-events.com. More than just a show directory, this year’s Little Black Book has been reworked to reflect the realities of modern retail buying, helping visitors efficiently shortlist suppliers, identify commercially relevant content sessions and discover products expected to become key sellers ahead of Christmas and Spring/ Summer 2027. Only 5,000 copies of the guide will be produced, available exclusively to buyers who opt in during registration. Matthew Mein, Event Director at Autumn Fair & Glee, said, “Retailers are busier than ever and buying behaviour has changed significantly over the last few years. Buyers are looking for ways to source faster, discover genuine newness and make confident decisions without wasting time. The Little Black Book has been designed to help them do exactly that. It’s practical, curated and genuinely useful, and something buyers can use before, during and long after the show itself.” Inside the 2026 edition, buyers will find: • A full exhibitor directory featuring more than 800 suppliers • Curated content highlights and mustattend sessions from the new Counter Talks Stage Trend insight and product inspiration for the peak trading season • Early visibility of bestselling products and emerging trends expected to shape consumer demand • Show planning tools designed to help visitors maximise their time onsite The launch comes as Autumn Fair continues to evolve its overall buyer experience for 2026, with new content stages, networking spaces and experiential features all designed around the findings of the recent Voices of Retail 2026 report by Spring & Autumn Fair and Faire. The Little Black Book forms part of a wider strategy to make Autumn Fair not just a sourcing destination, but a practical toolkit for modern retail success. Autumn Fair 2026 takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 6–9 September 2026. To register and claim your copy of the Little Black Book, visit https://www.autumnfair.com/little-black-book. 16

Interior Looks accessible yearround: digital showroom is live Interior Looks – the curated area for furniture and interior design at Ambiente – is now accessible beyond the trade fair with the new digital showroom. It brings all participating brands and their products into focus, offering an additional source of inspiration and research for new project partnerships. The second edition of Interior Looks clearly demonstrated the strong demand for connected platforms in the international contract business. The curated area in Hall 3.1 brought together 16 high-quality furniture and interior brands from Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland. All participating companies are characterised by a distinctive brand profile and a strong commitment to quality, appealing to the premium retail sector as well as the dynamically growing hospitality segment. Within the furniture-focused, design-oriented Ambiente Living environment, a unique space for exchange, inspiration and business development was created. Designed as a compact brand showcase, Interior Looks offers a resource-efficient alternative to traditional large-scale trade fair presentations and facilitates targeted engagement with international decision-makers. “The strong response to the second edition confirms that we are on the right track in consistently developing and expanding this format internationally,” says Yvonne Engelmann, Director Ambiente Living & Giving. “Interior Looks brings strong brands together with relevant target groups – creating the foundation for sustainable partnerships in the contract business.” Brands participating in the area in February included Acapulco Design, Artanova, Bielefelder Werkstätten, Christine Kröncke Interior Design, Conde House Europe, Coozus, Holtkötter Licht, JAB Anstoetz Group, Müller Möbelfabrikation, Piure, Rodam, Scholtissek, Signet and TF Fine Furniture, as well as Topstar with its brands Wagner and Sitness. The digital showroom now creates an additional point of access to these high-quality interior solutions – ranging from furniture and lighting to holistic spatial concepts. Users can explore the diversity of Interior Looks exhibitors regardless of time and place and search specifically for suitable partners for international projects. Voices from the market: networks as a success factor Exhibitors emphasise the importance of Interior Looks as a key platform for new business opportunities: “The contract business generates sustainable revenue growth for our company group. Ambiente provides a platform where we can reach architects and decision-makers,” says Jörg Hebel, Head of Contract at JAB Anstoetz. Matthias Hujer, Managing Director of BW Bielefelder Werkstätten, adds: “Ambiente 2026 was a great success for us. The Interior Looks area in particular provided the ideal setting to present our innovative strength to an international trade audience.” As a first-time exhibitor, Katharina Holtkötter, Managing Director of Holtkötter Licht, highlights the importance of partnerships: “The market is undergoing change. Reliable partnerships and strong networks are therefore more important than ever – especially in the premium interior segment. Interior Looks offers exactly the right framework for this.” Outlook: growth and internationalisation Following the successful expansion in its second edition, the further development of Interior Looks is already in full swing. In addition to further refining the concept, particular focus is being placed on the international expansion of the format. The aim is to establish the format in the long term as a key platform for high-quality interior design and as a central matchmaking hub for the global project business. The digital showroom complements this approach as a yearround interface, strengthening continuous networking between brands, retail and project partners. Next trade fair dates Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld will take place at the end of January 2027 at the Frankfurt exhibition grounds. The Compass Talks will once again kick off the events on the day before, 28 January 2027. Recognising that pets are far more than companions – they are family members, loyal friends and constant sources of comfort and joy – the collection offers a meaningful way to remember them, bringing a sense of peace at a difficult time. Each urn is handcrafted from glass, allowing light to move softly through the colours and patterns to create a calm and comforting presence within the home. Unlike traditional urns that are often hidden away, these pieces are designed to be displayed as decorative keepsakes that quietly honour a cherished companion. The collection is available in three elegant colours – purple, brown and grey – each chosen for its timeless and comforting appearance. These subtle tones sit beautifully within a variety of interiors, offering a personal way to remember a beloved pet. The urns are also available in two sizes, 12cm and 15cm, providing flexibility depending on individual needs. Made from glass, the urns have the appearance of a beautiful ornament rather than a traditional memorial piece. They sit naturally on a shelf, windowsill or dedicated memory space, catching the light and serving as a gentle reminder of the love and companionship pets bring to people’s lives. With this collection, Sienna Glass aims to provide a thoughtful and elegant way to honour the memory of a much-loved companion, creating a treasured keepsake that can be cherished for years to come. www.siennaglass.com GISELA GRAHAM This beautifully presented gift set contains a lemon tree-scented candle and matching diffuser, perfect for refreshing the home with a fresh, zesty fragrance.
