The show must go on
Like many, the ongoing news coverage about the supply chain crisis and the new Omricon COVID-19 variant is worrying for independent retailers. However, unlike last year, there has been no talk of retail closures or lockdowns - the show, it seems, must go on. While your buying for the festive season will undoubtedly be wrapped up, this issue we look ahead and focus on Valentine’s Day, as well as Gifts Under £10, Fairtrade, and Handmade.

| Gift of the Year competition extension until 15th December |
| |
The Giftware Association has today announced the extension of its Gift of the Year competition. The awards will be extended for a massive 15 days until the 15th December, so there is plenty of time for companies to enter their products and gifts.
Although the GA does usually extend the competition as it's a busy time of year for entrants approaching the Christmas season, this year has seen other reasons for the extension. The GA has listened to a lot of companies who have been affected by supply chain issues caused by the perfect storm of Brexit and the pandemic and they want to give everyone a chance to enter within enough time, whether companies are waiting on actual products, samples, or photography to enter. This is your chance to get involved.

| Caprice to begin production at Sri Lankan factory |
| |
Pirmasens-based shoe manufacturer Caprice is strengthening its commitment in South Asia and will be producing shoes from a production site based in Sri Lanka.
As early as April 2022, Caprice leather shoes for the coming autumn/winter season will be running on the production lines of the shoe factory in Colombo, which is operated jointly with the Pakistani SGF Ltd.
The island state of Sri Lanka has benefited from improved market access to the EU within the framework of the Generalised System of Preferences towards Developing Countries (GSP+) since May, 2017.
