Gift Focus inc Attire Accessories - September/October 2022

140 Tell me a bit about how the label was started. What was the inspiration etc? I started my own label after leaving art school in the 1980’s. I then designed and made exclusive silks for wedding attire, such as waistcoats, bow ties, and wedding dress fabrics. How were the initial products developed and what was the response? They were all hand-made in Yorkshire, where I was living, and received very well. What challenges did you face and how were they overcome when starting the business? Everything took a long time to produce as every piece was a one-off. Finding a good waistcoat manufacturer in Leeds to help produce them made a big difference. What is it that sets you apart from your competitors? Being a small company, we can produce more colours and designs than a larger manufacturer would, which gives our customers fantastic choice. How important is the location and history of the company to its success? We have very loyal customers going back years who help promote us, and there is nothing better than word of mouth marketing. Bristol is a great city to be based in. Has the product offering changed since you started and how would you describe your current collection? The products have changed a lot over the years with our bestseller now being the Wristee fingerless glove. We have expanded the range of Wristees to suit different markets and budgets including our organic cotton (GOTS certified) fabric collection of Wristees and scarves.
