44 Outdoor space We look at HOMI’s new outdoor show, HOMI Outdoor HOMI Outdoor Home&Dehors is a new exhibition project by Fiera Milano coming to the Rho Fiera Milano in September. The event is dedicated to furniture, accessories, décor and scenarios for living and experiencing the freedom of the domestic environment and its outdoor space. January’s edition of the Lifestyle fair attracted 80,000 attendees from more than 90 countries, with the majority of visitors from Russia, Spain, Switzerland, China, France and Japan. The international atmosphere was furthered by the show’s partnership with ICE (the Italian Trade Agency), which supports HOMI’s incoming buyer scheme to meet the needs of companies in attendance. Increasingly, gardens and terraces are being treated like extensions of the home, with a trend towards interior-style decoration in outdoor spaces. Balconies, gardens and terraces are expanded with furnishings, planters, lamps, accessories, storage, wall clocks and candles, allowing interior style to run seamlessly into outdoor spaces. Indoor decoration has, by reverse, begun to explore the materials and forms of nature. Interior design has seen a strong resurgence of natural materials, such as wood, plant fibres, stone and raw fabrics used for domestic spaces – from table centres and chandeliers to cushion and sofa coverings and accessories. With an eye towards this trend and a focus on objects and accessories that rewrite the difference between inside and outside living spaces, HOMI Outdoor is set up to explore this new area in a new, more agile show. The organisers report that the show will offer innovative solutions dedicated to outdoor spaces, but also looks at the best of decoration innovation in areas such as barbecues, outdoor furniture, outdoor table accessories and garden and terrace accessories. The diversified platform is designed to add value to the growing outdoor and garden markets, characterised by increasingly specialised distribution channels and points of sale. This is to satisfy the new open-air trends inside and outside of the home, without forgetting the classic interior décor pieces that will find a new opportunity to meet the market. The event, set to take place once a year in September, will represent a wide range of products that combine design, functionality and research to anticipate sector trends.
