Show season

With the show season now fully under way, many of you will have enjoyed the delights of visiting Home & Gift in person, and will no doubt be reaping the benefits of the unrivalled opportunities that come from meeting and greeting face to-face, and being able to physically touch and see the products you want to stock in store. On day three of the UK's leading home, gift and fashion show, Autumn Fair co-located with Moda, visitors were treated to an insightful and honest conversation with retail entrepreneur and small business advocate Theo Paphitis in which he championed hybrid retail - the mix of physical and online retailing. As well as highlighting the growth in convenience and localised shopping, he urged would-be retailers to take the opportunity now to open physical stores and revealed that his businesses are looking to open more stores and have identified 200 sites to investigate.

Wax Lyrical, the UK's largest home fragrance manufacturer, has completed the build of its new factory in Lindal-in-Furness and with orders already secured, has also launched in the hand and body care sector.Wax Lyrical owners, Portmeirion Group, invested £1.5 million to build the new production facility expanding capabilities at the Cumbria plant and heralding the new era.The first products are about caring for hands with hydrating wash and moisturising lotion and the third new product, a fragranced no-rinse hand cleanser, does the same great job as Wax Lyrical sanitiser. As well as protection from germs you get fragrances such as Mediterranean Orange, Sunflower and Exotic Fig.

Following a surge in online sales in 2020 thanks to COVID-19, UK shoppers are predicted to further increase their spending as new data forecasts £120.48bn of online purchases in 2021.The VoucherCodes.co.uk Life after COVID: Prospects for online retailing, physical stores, and how we pay report, carried out by the Centre of Retail Research (CRR), examines the impact of the pandemic on both online and offline retailing. It also looks ahead to 2021 and 2022 to understand how online sales will be impacted as the UK recuperates from the pandemic.

BCTF Online 2021, which ran from 27 June – 1 July, welcomed close to a thousand verified retail trade buyers to the five-day digital event, plus hours of content from an expert line-up of speakers.Participants in the show, where categories ranged from jewellery and fashion accessories through to ceramics, glass, woodwork, fine art and paper products, were lavished with attention from exclusive retail buyers in search of the best British handmade products.The event attracted 888 buyers in total, who viewed thousands of catalogue pages and images, watched hundreds of videos and created hundreds of favourites during the show.

Kelly Hoppen is the UK's most searched-for interior designer, according to a new research study by Design Bundle. The designer and former Dragon – famous for her classic East-meets-West style –pulls in more than 20,000 searches a month on average. The UK's second most popular interior designer is Philippe Starck. Known for his eclectic transformations of hotel interiors, Stark rakes in 12,100 searches a month, nearly double the average number of searches (6,650) for the top ten designers.
