9 EDITOR’S LETTER On the cover With brighter times ahead, what better way to celebrate than with this uplighting set from Lesser & Pavey? Featuring butterflies and blooms, we showcase more of the company’s product throughout the magazine. Visit www.leonardo.co.uk The future is bright Well, that was a bit of a shocker wasn’t it? Shall we just chalk 2020 down to ‘experience’ and act like it never happened? I think like most of the world, I am still reeling from what I had planned to be a successful year of work, family life and travel, turning into something altogether different! However, all jokes aside, 2020 brought with it challenges and hurdles no business could ever foretell, and we have all done what we needed to do to try and survive the storm and emerge the other side. I, like all of you, am looking forward to the positivity the new year brings, and with successful vaccine trials now bringing renewed hope for a much calmer 12 months that will see footfall back in stores and at events, the future looks bright for the gift industry going forwards. And while I joked about chalking it down to experience, there is something to be said for taking the lessons learned in 2020 and using them to our advantage for our long-term business goals. Whether you’ve bolstered your online offering in the wake of the digital boom, or you’ve changed up your product to adapt to pandemic success stories, or have scrapped that five- year business plan in favour of a more agile forward-focus that will roll with the punches – it’s all amazing experience to stand you in good stead in the months ahead. Talking of product, in this issue we focus on What’s Hot for 2021 on page 50, where I highlight some of my personal favourite gift choices, and while Spring Fair physical event may not be happening this year, we know you still need to know what’s out there. Don’t forget to check out the exhibitor profiles on page 71 to get your Spring Fair fix. Of course, there are myriad gifting opportunities, and I also focus on Mother’s Day, Easter, Novelty, Kitchenware, and Anniversary gifts.
