97 RETAILER INTERVIEW Tell us a bit about your store and how you came to open the business. I opened Yard 10 years ago having been made redundant from the head office of a major high street brand. Yard is primarily a ladies clothing store but with a carefully chosen range of gifts and home wear. Is the location important to the success of your store? We are based in Poundbury on the outskirts of Dorchester, where easy on-street free parking is really important to our customers as they know they can quickly pop in for a browse. What challenges were overcome when the company was starting out? You never really know who your customer is going to be, so we quickly had to adapt our offer to be less dressy and more casual. What is your customer base? We don’t really have a specific customer we pride ourselves on being able to offer something for everyone. What’s your USP? We offer a very friendly experience and even a social meeting place for many of our customers. Our ranges are curated from many brands and so are unique to us, and we make sure that we have new styles in every week. I I I 
