Keeping it real with Apples to Pears

Keeping it real with Apples to Pears

An unwitting fish farmer from the Isle of Mull has brought Apples to Pear's Lawn Ranger Hat to TV screens across the country. Unlikely supermodel Reay Whyte, the groundsman at Isle of Mull rugby club, can be seen sporting a dour expression and a woolly hat featuring the Simon Drew designed Lawn Ranger hat in footage for the Rugby Union's “Keeping it Real” advertising campaign to promote the world cup in England. Reay told the Oban Times that his “lovely warm hat” was actually bought by his daughter to cover tufts of hair left by chemotherapy, and it proved to be just the job for filming which took place in the pouring rain.

With Reay getting on-street recognition and the hat boasting its own social media hashtag #thelawnranger, Apples to Pears are bracing themselves for increased Christmas sales on the back of the campaign. In the hope of putting a smile on his face, Apples to Pears have been in touch with the Mull club, offering to send Reay a complimentary Lawn Ranger mug and pair of socks from the company's popular gift range.
