The only break in the dove-grey sky comes from sturdy pylons and telegraph poles, undefeated by the harsh winter. Meanwhile bright lights twinkle on an outdoor Christmas tree that a homeowner has festooned with a colourful garland, to bring cheer to a cold winter night. The vase is exquisitely outlined by hand with liquid clay before being hand- painted in Stoke-on-Trent.
